For many, Christmas is the most-anticipated holiday of the year. It can also be stressful, however, as you attempt to buy the perfect gift for your loved ones. We give gifts to show our love and make others happy, but there is always the worry that the gifts we choose will fail to solicit the desired reaction from friends or family members.

The key to adept gift giving is to know and understand the recipient. Your gift need not be expensive as long as it is something that the recipient will enjoy and make use of.
Here are a few smart tactics to steer your gift giving this holiday season:
- Give the gift of experience – Rather than giving a thing, give a life experience. Buy your loved one tickets for a community theater presentation, concert or sport game. You can also give a gift certificate for an outing that includes a walk in the park and a candlelight dinner.
- Give what a person loves the most – Sometimes we slip into the habit of giving a person a gift that we would want ourselves. To avoid this pitfall, focus on what your friend or family member loves the most—even if it’s not something that you would enjoy receiving.
- Be a stalker – We mean this in a nice way, of course. Check your loved one’s Amazon wish list or the list of items they have recently searched on Etsy or eBay. These resources can help you understand what interests people.
- Aim for a grand unveiling – Don’t just hand the recipient a gift to unwrap; present it with panache. Create a scavenger hunt that leads to your gift, or wrap a small gift inside a series of larger nesting boxes.
In the spirit of Christmas and the excitement of gift giving and receiving, all of us at Gold Plating wish you the best of the holiday season.
