Bath & Brush Application

Gold Plating Services’ Wood's Nickel Strike Solution is an acid nickel chloride solution used to prepare steel (stainless, mild, carbon, etc.) for plating. It simultaneously activates most steel surfaces while applying a thin nickel coating that will ensure maximum possible adhesion of subsequent plating. This solution can also be used to activate many other ferrous (iron-containing) metals or copper alloys.

Usage Notes:

  • This is a consumable solution - the components break down with use and it is not intended to be replenished.
  • Top off all evaporation loss with distilled water.
  • This product will not apply a visible nickel deposit under normal application and will not provide brightening or a decorative plate like Bright Nickel Plating Solution.
  • Steel surfaces must be clean and free of excessively corroded or oxidized material. Best results are obtained by polishing the steel surface to desired luster, either abrasively or by electro-polishing. The surface must then be cleaned with degreaser or electro-cleaned to be absolutely free of oily residue. Do not touch the cleaned surface.

Operating Conditions

Temperature -   Room

Anode -   Bath: Nickel (preferred), Bagged Graphite, or Platinized Titanium
Brush: Nickel Bit (preferred) or Platinized Titanium Bit with a Cotton Sleeve

Voltage -   5 -7 Volts

Time -   20 - 30 Seconds - Over-activation can damage the surface, causing darkening once the surface has been plated

Shelf Life -   If stored at room temperature, properly sealed solution has a shelf life of ~2 years
